3 days in kidepo valley national park

Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the most “virgin” places one can ever visit in Uganda. The park hosts over 75 species of mammals, 470 bird species and a vast array of lush vegetation. This 3-day experience is designed to give you a highlight experience of this little-known park with a perfect blend of people and nature experiences.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport and transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park.

You will be picked up by a wild calling Africa safari representative and you can either opt for the long, adventurous drive via North Eastern Uganda or opt to charter a flight.

OPTION 1—FLYING
You will board a connecting flight to Kidepo Valley National Park right at the airport. Flights to kidepo national park are offered by Aero link Uganda and take off from Entebbe airport on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays the minimum group size of persons always carried is two persons.

OPTION 2—DRIVING
If you opt to get to kidepo by road, brace yourself for a very long 700km drive. The shortest route to the park is the Northern driving route vis Gulu and Kitgum towns. Depending on the time your inbound flight arrives, it is advisable to take a rest at either of these towns en route because this journey could take up to 12 hours.

Upon arrival at the park, you will check in at your accommodation of choice and if you travel by air, you have an option of getting right into an evening game as you may not be as exhausted as the road trip traveler.

Day 2: Morning Game drive, wildlife viewing and cultural experience.

On day 2, you will enjoy an early breakfast and then head to the park for the game drive searching for the nearly extinct cheetahs, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, elephants, leopards, hyenas and you can also expect to see beautiful birds as well; one that might stand out most is the ostrich.

We will return to the lodge to relax, have lunch and then head out for the Karamajong cultural experience at Kapedo and Karema. The Karamojong are a tribe of fierce warrior pastoralists found in the northeastern corner of Uganda bordering southern Sudan and Kenya and what you will learn about how they live and work will blow you away. By the time we are done with this, it will be time for an evening drive after which you will retire for dinner and overnight stay at a lodge of your choice.

Day 3: Drive back to Kampala or your place of accommodation.

This will start with an early breakfast, then shall meet the driver for yet another long drive back to Kampala, a flight to the airport or to preferred accommodation with en-route stopovers for nature views and lunch.
